Communications, Storytelling, Engagement

The power of BU APP lies in how we share ideas and inspire change. Our communications opportunities give you space to experiment, create, and amplify your voice—whether through writing, design, or media. From our weekly newsletter to graphic design projects and op-eds published with GFI, this is your chance to shape the story of the protein transition and make it resonate across campus and beyond.

Whether you’re interested in policy, design, journalism, or scientific writing, our communications opportunities give you the tools to translate big ideas into action.

  • Weekly Newsletter

Our newsletter is ever-evolving and a fluid medium you can make your own. Contribute to design, copywriting, or current events research—or even launch your own recurring blog piece. If you have an idea you want to share, this is the place to do it, and we want to hear from you.

  • Design

Design with BU APP can take many forms: creating event flyers, infographics, and social media content, helping with website design, or working on more complex projects that translate science into compelling advocacy pieces. Whatever your medium, you’ll gain experience in turning ideas into visuals that drive impact.

  • Op-Ed Writing

Hone your persuasive writing skills for public audiences and shape conversations around sustainability and food systems. BU APP also offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with the Good Food Institute’s communications team, who will work with you directly to make your piece publish-ready and help you bring your voice into broader media outlets.

Voices 4 Change Journal

In 2025, the inaugural Voices 4 Change publication was released both online and in print at the Food 4 Thought Festival, co-supported by the BU Alt Protein Project. This landmark issue showcased student writing and research and was shared not only with over 400 in-person attendees, but also was distributed widely online and across multiple platforms. The festival brought together innovators, students, and professionals from around the world—making Voices 4 Change a global stage for student voices.

Now, you have the opportunity to contribute to the next edition. This is your chance to officially publish work that will be seen by students, professionals, and changemakers across disciplines.

Contributions are not limited to written pieces—submit research abstracts, creative media, photography, blog excerpts, or even your favorite plant-based recipes. Voices 4 Change is a platform to share your ideas, your creativity, and your vision for a better food future.
